About the Program

The UCeed Social Impact Fund is a social finance partnership that supports a growing ecosystem of social purpose organizations making positive changes in communities. It invests in social entrepreneurs whose innovations have been tested with customers or beneficiaries and who are ready to scale both their business model and their social impact. The fund emphasizes social innovation, equity and inclusivity, collaboration, and a growth mindset, and is powered by partners including United Way of Calgary and Area, individual donors, and the Government of Alberta’s Creative Partnerships initiative.

Program Benefits

Funding Support: Ventures can receive between 30,000 and 300,000 CAD in investment to commercialize evidence-based solutions to social challenges.

Capacity & Community: Portfolio companies gain connection to UCalgary’s wider innovation ecosystem and the Calgary Social Value Fund, supporting entrepreneurial thinking and social finance capacity.

Visibility & Network: Investee organizations benefit from affiliation with a leading university-backed fund and access to advisors, partners, and community stakeholders in the Alberta impact ecosystem.

Eligibility Criteria

You are eligible to be considered if you:

• Live and/or operate in Alberta, with demonstrable impact or operations in the province.
• Are a social enterprise (non-profit, for-profit, charity, or cooperative) with a clear community benefit and an evidence-based solution.
• Are incorporated prior to receipt of funds and can add at least one full-time employee within six months of UCeed investment.
• Are able to report on impact measures within six months, using or aligning with frameworks such as the Impact Management Norms or the Common Approach.
